The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides is a really great read. If you’re looking for a thriller filled with suspense and unexpected turns and an ending that you would never expect this is definitely a book for you.
The story starts with a woman named Alicia Brenson (artist/painter) who has a husband named Gabriel. One day Alicia takes a gun and kills her husband, and is immediately arrested. At this point speculation permeates throughout the community about the reason why Alicia killed her husband. What stands out most about Alicia is that ever since her husband’s death, she doesn’t say a single word to anyone. The case is then taken to court where Alicia is eventually found guilty and committed to a mental institution called The Grove. Next enters a psychotherapist called Theo Faber. Theo is assigned to speak with Alicia where he tries to figure why Alicia killed her husband. Theo begins heavy research on Alicia contacting all the people she knows as well as working with her daily desperately trying to get her to say something.
Its revealed that Theo is also having problems in his relationship with his girlfriend which ultimately leads to the shocking reason of why Alicia killed her husband. This book will definitely take you on a journey to a point where you’ll never know what happens next. I don’t want to give too much away in this review but if you get a chance please check this book out for a good read.
